(Please check dates and times closely):

Overnight camp participants will fly in on Monday, July 30th between 2:30-5:00.  Once you have your flight itinerary, please email it to us at teamcoburn@thecatchingguy.com.  If you are planning on attending the Camp Kickoff Hitting Clinic, please do everything you can to fly in between 12:00pm and 2:30pm and if you’re not attending the Hitting Clinic, you can fly in as late as 4:30.  We will be conducting a Camp Orientation for all overnighters at 6:30 on Monday the 30th.  Overnight campers who are not with parents will be picked up at the airport by a Gamer Baseball/The Catching Guy staff member.

We will send an email providing more details once we receive your registration.  Our goal is to have all overnight campers checked in to the The Nugget Casino and Resort between 2:00 – 4:00.  We will conduct the overnight camper orientation at approximately 6:30 when we get back from the Hitting Clinic.

On Friday, August 3rd, we will provide lunch to all participants and for those needing to book a flight out, please plan on scheduling your flight out of Reno between 2:30-5:00 which will give us plenty of time to get your player cleaned up and to the airport.

Day Campers will check in at the Golden Eagle Regional Park at 7:30am on Tuesday the 31st and will be picked up from Golden Eagle at 11:30 on Friday the 3rd.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT YOUR CATCHER TO WORK ON WHILE AT CAMP:

  • Stances – The 3 stances a catcher uses through out a game
  • Receiving – Soft hands, sticking the pitch, getting strikes called strikes and stri-balls called strikes.
  • Blocking – Technique to help us “be a wall!”
  • Tag plays – Receiving throws from the infield & outfield.
  • Force plays – Set up and footwork for getting the out and turning two.
  • Bunt plays – Footwork for bunts down 1st, 3rd and middle of the field.
  • Pop ups – Routine to catch each and every pop up in our area.
  • Throwing – Proper mechanics to get the out and protect our arms.
  • Retrieving passed balls and wild pitches – How to get the out at home.

AND during the “extra sessions” expect to learn about:

  • How the best of the best do what they do (Video breakdowns).
  • How to understand (and make it through) the recruiting process.
  • How to get seen by college coaches and the correct steps to take to make it to the next level.
  • How to understand pitchers and pitching.  Understanding how to set up hitters, help with their pitching mechanics, when to do a mound visit & more.
  • How to safely improve your arm strength and overall health.
  • How to play with confidence, understanding good work ethic and staying motivated to always do your best.
  • The importance of hip flexibility, mobility, strength and power.

MEALS / SNACKS:

We will provide 3 meals a day for overnight campers (with or without parents).  Any “extra meals” and snacks will need to be purchased by each individual.  They will not be able to “roam” the hotel/casino so it might be a good idea to send your catcher with snacks to keep in their rooms.

If your child has any food allergies or a specific meal plan, please email me at teamcoburn@thecatchingguy.com so we can discuss other meal options.  We are planning on having In & Out Burger, Port of Subs and Pizza, to name a few, during the week.  Breakfast is provided by the hotel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

: What should I bring and wear to camp?

:  Make sure you bring or wear the following:

  • Baseball appropriate clothing including baseball pants. Shorts are NOT recommended.
  • *Each Catcher MUST have their own complete set of catchers gear including a protective cup.
  • Cleats or turf shoes for turf fields (no spikes).
  • Water bottle & snack.
: What time does check-in begin?

:  Please have your catcher to the field approximately 20-30 minutes prior to the start of camp on day one for check in (Day one only).  After that, Coach Todd and/or his staff typically arrive at least 30 minutes prior to camp.  We will start camp at 8:00am sharp each day.

: What time should I pick up my catcher?

:  Camp field sessions will conclude at 11:00 each day. Training will end around 10:50 and then Coach Todd will do one of his “Final Thought” talks until 11:00.  Parents are encouraged to be there for Coach Todd’s post camp talks.

: Can parents stick around and watch during the camp?

:  It is not only allowed, it is encouraged. We love to have the parents observe during our camps and clinics. You are welcome to observe from the bleachers during the drills and training. If we can help the parents to gain more knowledge about the position so they can reinforce and pass along the information to the catchers, we’re all for it! We just ask that you please stay in the bleachers or on the “side lines” and not come actually on the field or in the training area. We don’t want anyone to get hit by a ball. Thanks for your understanding.

: Why should my catcher attend this camp? What is The Catching Guy "difference?"

:  There is A LOT of information out there about the position of catcher.  Coach Todd is known for the ability to dissect the complex and present it in the simple. His ability to communicate the information in a manner that is relatable and understandable to catchers of all ages and experience levels is what sets him apart. Additionally, The Catching Guy events are not only designed to help develop the skills your catcher needs to succeed at the position, and in the game of baseball… there is also a large emphasis placed on building the confidence needed to succeed in the “game of life.”
